“Frodo is great …who is that?” (often abbreviated as “FIGWIT”) is a nickname given to Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Concords), the New Zealand comic slash musician who briefly appeared as an extra in the 2001 fantasy adventure film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The term FIGWIT was coined by an Israeli fan Iris Hada in 2002, when she first noticed McKenzie in the background during the “Council of Elrond” scene:
When Frodo says “I will take it!”, we are so impressed we start to think “Frodo is great!“ But before we finish, the camera pans and we see Figwit, smoldering enigmatically in the background. All other thoughts are whisked away by that elf – who is THAT?! He’s gorgeous!
